To set up a buzzer you will first need a registered phone number (landline or cellular) through a phone provider. When you have received your phone number, contact the East Campus International Housing Office to have them connect a buzzer number to your phone. The buzzer number will be assigned and it is not the number of the room in which you reside.
Each unit is only allowed to have one buzzer per unit. If two people are residing in the unit, then only one person will be allowed to have the buzzer connected to their phone. The system is based on when the building was originally constructed; each unit would have only had one landline phone as cell phones did not exist.
Rent can be paid in person at the East Campus International Housing Office located at 8801 - 111 Street or on the internet by going to :

The University of Alberta is trying to move away from being a commuter campus and as such parking on campus can be difficult. Parking can be arranged either through the private parking lot beside the building or through Campus Parking Services at 492-7275. The parking in front of the building is for the commercial tenant spaces and they do ticket and tow people who park their illegally.
5 ) How to request movie online?
Just email us at npra@ualberta.ca with the movie name. Your request will be recorded, and we will respond to it as soon as possible.
6 ) Can I leave things at the bottom of Newton?
Although it is a great intention to leave things for others that you no longer need, if they aren't taken it ends up on our single maintenance personal to remove the object(s). We have brought in a white bin out back besides the recycling bin for clothing donations. You are also encouraged to use the Newton Classifieds to get rid of things, just put the price listing as free.
7 ) Is there only one recycling bin in Newton?
There is a second recycling bin out in the back of Newton. The recycling bin that most people are familiar with is the blue bin; however, the third green bin nearest the parking lot is a recycling container for cardboard. It is important to use this bin as the blue bin will fill up too quickly with the addition of bulky cardboard. Please make sure to rinse all containers that you put into the blue bin.
8 ) How do I deal with a noisy neighbour?
Step 1 - Knock on the residents door and politely ask them to please reduce the volume of their noise.
Step 2 - If noise persists contact the East Campus Housing Office at 492-9495. The office will ask you and the resident if step one was completed so be sure to show this courtesy to the person causing the noise.
* If you are not comfortable approach the door by yourself someone from the office should be able to assist you in making the first contact.
Step 3 - If the noise persists the Resident Assistant will return to notify the offending resident that they will be creating an Incident Report. Receiving an Incident Report can lead to Community Service Hours.
Step 1 - If the noise is extremely loud contact the Resident Assistant at 619-9277.
Step 2 - If the noise is at a low to moderate level knock on the residents door and politely ask them to please reduce the volume of their noise
Step 3 - If the noise persists contact the Residence Assistant at 619-9277. The Resident Assistant will ask you and the resident if step two was completed so be sure to show this courtesy to the person causing the noise.
Step 4 – If the noise persists the Resident Assistant will return to notify the offending resident that they will be creating an Incident Report. Receiving an Incident Report can lead to Community Service Hours.
9 ) Is there a garbage chute and is it locked?
On every floor there is a washing machine located in the right hand hallway when exiting the elevator. In the washing machine room there is a second door which contains the garbage chute. This chute is not locked; the push button to open it is located on the side of the small garbage chute door. If you leave your garbage in the room there is a twenty five dollar initial charge and a fifty dollar billing charge for repeat offenses. Please make sure to not put pizza boxes or large sized garbage down the chute as it can clog and cause a stink.
10 ) If I am in a bachelor suite is that all the space I have?
A bachelor space has a small storage space which is located across from the laundry room. Because there is an overhang in these storage areas it is advisable to not keep important documents or items within the storage space; however, it is an advisable space for storing packing boxes and other oversized items.

12) Noise issues on my floor, what can I do?
Managing noise levels is everyone's responsibility. If you are experiencing noise issues on your floor, please keep the following steps in mind:
Address the noise immediately by politely approaching the noisemakers and letting them know that they are disturbing you.
Should the issue persist, please notify your RA, as they may not be aware of this issue.
You can call your RA On-Call for further assistance if you are experiencing persistent noise or are unsure where the noise is coming from.
Bring up any issues of noise right away and don't let frustrations fester.
To ensure that you are not negatively contributing to the noise level in your building or on your floor , please observe the following:
Abide by Quiet Hours regulations. Please also note that 24-hour Courtesy Hours are in effect all year. This means that you should be producing no unreasonable noise at any time and that people have a right to be able to sleep, study and remain undisturbed by noise at any time of the day or night.
Please keep late-night conversations out of the hallways and instead head for your apartment or the study room.
Please be mindful of the noise that you are creating and cooperate when people notify you that your noise level is a disturbance.
Make sure that electronics/stereos/speakers are not turned up to an unreasonable level and be aware that bass can travel a long was through the walls! Use headphones as an additional courtesy to your neighbours.
Moving furniture or working on noisy projects in your room or forgetting to shut your alarm clock off are sure ways to annoy your neighbours!
If you have any issues regarding the noise level in your community, please be sure to contact your RA.
