The Executive
The NPRA Executive Council is responsible for representing and serving the residents of Newton Place and are guided by our mission statement and by-laws.
The Executive council meets every-second-Sunday, at 6:00 PM in The Nest, from September through April. Attending is a great way to stay updated with the affairs of the NPRA.
Name: Danny Aceytuno
Position: President
Biography: My name is Danny Aceytuno and I am the President of the Newton Place Residents' Association (NPRA) for the 2011-2012 academic year. I hold a B.Sc Honors with First Class Honors in Physiology and Developmental Biology from the University of Alberta and am currently completing the sixth year of a Ph.D. in Biochemistry. This is my third year as a resident in Newton Place, though I have been a member of the residence community for the duration of my university career, having lived in East Campus Village and Lister Hall for five-and-a-half and two years, respectively.
Duties: The mission of the NPRA is to provide programs and services to residents of Newton Place residence and represent resident interests at higher levels of governance at the University of Alberta (e.g. Residence Services, the Students' Union, University of Alberta Residence Halls Association, and Graduate Students' Association) with the ultimate goal of enhancing the residence experience and sense of community for residents. The role of the President is to provide vision and guidance for the organization internally, and represent its interests externally, such that this mission is ensured.
Name: Anran Zhang
Position: VP Programming/Internal
Biography: Hi everyone, my name is Anran, or Ann in short. I am the VP Programming/Internal in NPRA. I am a 3rd year undergraduate in the Nutrition and Food program.
Duties: My role in this position is to make sure that we have enough interesting events/programmings organized by NPRA members and get residents in Newton socialized with other fellow residents in our residence community. If you have any suggestions/comments on our currents programmings, please contact me as I will be very happy to talk with you. Hope to see you around!
Name: Lei Sun
Position: VP Finance
Biography: Hey everyone! I'm a second year master student of Chemical Engineering in U of A. I've been living in Newton Place for more than one year (and I was the event programmer of NPRA last year), and have enjoyed every minute of it. I am now the VP Finance in NPRA, looking forward to working with my colleagues and making Newton a wonderful place for us to live.
Duties: The Vice President, Finance works to ensure that all of the NPRA's budgetary documents are up-to-date. He also works to maintain monetary transparency and responsibility to the Newton Place residents. See the posted financial documents on the Meetings and documents page.
Name: Mei Shen
Position: VP Operation
Biography: I'm a graduate student at the U of A. This is my second year of the PH.D program in electrical and computer engineering department. I appreciate to have the opportunity to be a member in NPRA and help provide a good service for the residents here. I am always free to get any feedback and suggest from our resident about stuffs in the nest (community center).
Duties: To improve maintain community center service for the residents.
